While there is no expectation of privacy on public roadways, GenLogs takes several precautions to ensure that the data we collect is secure and private.

We do not collect private vehicle data

Because public datasets make it possible to link a private vehicle’s make, model, and license plate to the owner, we filter out all private vehicles at the edge. Our AI is trained to capture images of commercial vehicles and our sensors are optimized to obfuscate any identifiable information about the driver.

We do not collect data about the driver

In the commercial trucking industry, license plates are tied to a business entity, not an individual. Even with a truck's license plate, GenLogs has no way of attributing it to a specific driver or individual. We also do not collect any driver information, further ensuring that the data we handle cannot be classified as PII.

This approach is similar to how commercial airplane tracking works.

Platforms like FlightRadar24 collect and display data about planes via ADS-B ground stations. While they can identify which airplane is in the air, they cannot reveal the identities of pilots or passengers, ensuring compliance with privacy laws.

We follow legal precedent

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) collects and publicly shares data on commercial trucks without legal issues because that data is tied to the entity operating the vehicle, not an individual. Similarly, GenLogs collects data that is tied to commercial entities.

Transparency as a force for good

At GenLogs, we believe that our supply chains are stronger and more resilient when they are transparent. By collecting images of all 4 million trucks on the middle mile, our customers are able to fight fraud, cargo theft, and unauthorized use of their assets. We also supply our data to nonprofit and public agencies to aid in the fight against human and drug trafficking.
